Review: Chanel 'Poudre Universelle Compacte'

I've been drooling over this products for a few months and when I heard I graduated high school against all odds, I decided I could buy myself a little present. Or two, when I was looking at the Chanel counter in a Dutch store that sells all kinds of expensive and high-end brands, I couldn't resist buying myself a Chanel perfume too.

Anyway, I was thrilled to try the powder at home because I searched for a good one for ages. My skin tends to 'shine bright like diamond', and I don't like that. I don't really like the song either, haha. I've had a few powders, both high- and low-end and the best one yet was a low-end powder by the Drugstore-brand Catrice. I believe that's a german brand but I'm not sure. I bought the shade Nr.30 - Natural. But as it has almost no color/coverage it doesn't really matter I guess.

The sad thing was, when I got home and tried it, I didn't like it at all. You have to rub really hard to get a little of the product on your applicator, and even if you rub really, and I mean really hard, you still get a little. So putting it on your face already takes about three times as long as any other powder I've ever tried. Half an hour later, there was nothing of the product left on my skin. The finish was totally gone and I shined again. I have to admit that it does feel really nice on your face, the finish feels really soft.

I do have to say, the packaging is outright gorgeous. It feels classy (is that a word?), stylish, expensive. I don't know, I never do really care because nobody sees the products. But still, I love it. It also comes with a cute yet impractical soft case with the Chanel logo on it, and a sponge you will not use to applicate the powder. The package does get dirty while using it, but you can clean it.

I gave it another try, and another try, but I always come back to my budget Catrice powder. I really hoped this would have been an amazing product, such a shame it isn't. My next try will be a loose powder by Mac, I'm just a little afraid I will break out because I heard a lot of people say that. Well, we'll see.

  3. I thought the same, but it's the second high-end product already that doesn't work for me! Maybe it's just me? I don't know. And low-end products don;t gave to be bad products! Only in some cases (like a moisturizer for example) high-end products tend to have better and nurturing components!

And thanks for the nomination! It's really late here so I will check it out tomorrow!

  4. Oh that is a shame it's didn't work for you, especially as it's not cheap either! a lot of places will give you a refund or exchange - especially if it has caused a skin reaction after using it, so hopefully you can get something that will work better for you!

  5. Yes it sure is a shame. I know, that's not the reason I'm afraid to try the MAC powder, it's because I just don't want the skin reaction, haha.
